Dry Eye Disease Is A Widespread & Common Issue for Up to
49 Million Americans

This chronic condition can have a significant impact on your quality of life, causing a foreign body sensation in your eyes, pain, blurry vision, and dry or watery eyes. Untreated, it can even lead to further eye health complications.

Despite these constant detrimental effects on quality of life, many dry eye sufferers are not aware that they’re suffering from dry eye disease or that real treatments exist. Instead, they just live with the discomfort.

By investing in the latest dry eye treatment technologies, Vision Clinic is ready to support your eye comfort with personalized strategies.

We’re proud to offer OptiLight by Lumenis to our patients, specially designed for dry eye management.

What Is
OptiLight by Lumenis
?

OptiLight by Lumenis is a light-based, non-invasive treatment done in the area below the eyes to manage dry eye. The first and only IPL FDA-approved for dry eye management.

The treatment is safe, gentle, and is backed by more than 20 clinical studies.

How
Does It Work?

OptiLight uses precise pulses of light to reduce the inflammation that is typically associated with dry eye disease, improve tear break-up time, and increase meibomian gland functionality.

This application can significantly relieve dry eye indicators and has a multi-factorial effect, including:

  • Increasing tear break-up time
  • Reducing the amount of demodex mites and bacteria living around your eyes
  • Eliminating blood vessels that contribute to inflammation
  • Improving meibomian gland functionality

What to Expect
Before Your Treatment

Your tears are essential for maintaining your eye comfort, but your eyes may develop several issues that could affect your tear quality. To help diagnose what’s causing these issues, we use various technologies like the TearLab Osmolarity System to measure salt content in your tears, and the Oculus keratograph and meibography instrument to examine your eyelids and observe the health of their oil glands.

We can also observe the health of your eye surface by examining it with a high-powered microscope or using sodium fluorescein dyes to measure tear break-up time.

Prior to your OptiLight appointment, we’ll ask you to:

  • Stay out of the sun for at least 4 weeks
  • Wear SPF 30 sunscreen when you are outside
  • Cease taking oral antibiotics and topical retinoids for at least 1 week

When you come in for your treatment, we’ll have you fill out a skin type questionnaire, remove any makeup you’re wearing, and wash your face. Depending on the area we’re treating, we might have you wear eye shields or we may apply an ultrasound gel for your treatment.

What to Expect
During Your Treatment

This treatment is fast and simple. During the treatment your doctor will apply a coupling gel on the treatment area and cover your eyes with shields.

As light is applied to the skin, you may experience a warm sensation. The treatment is gentle with minimum discomfort. The treatment itself will only take 10–15 minutes.

What to Expect
After Your Treatment

Your skin might be a little pink after your treatment, but this is normal and symptoms should disappear in a few hours. Before you leave, we’ll apply sunscreen to protect your treated areas and book your next appointments.

We recommend avoiding direct sunlight for about 48 hours after your appointment. Tenderness in treated areas may also last 48 hours, so we’ll also recommend that you avoid washing your face with hot water and exfoliating your skin during this time. Moisturizers and sunscreen are highly encouraged to help protect your skin!

  • Warm compress masks
  • Punctal plugs
  • Amniotic membranes
  • MiBoFlo thermal treatment

Your experience is personalized based on your needs and the severity of your dry eye symptoms, and we’ll be happy to combine multiple strategies to help you achieve optimal eye comfort.

Will the OptiLight Lumenis
Work for Me
?

While OptiLight by Lumenis is an effective dry eye management solution, we want to make sure it’s right for you. We do not recommend this treatment if you:

  • Suffer from aqueous deficiency dry eye (rather than evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction)
  • Have a history of keloid scarring
  • Have severe scarring around your eyes

Ultimately, your doctor is the only person who can determine whether this option is right for you. During your next appointment, ask us if you are a good candidate for OptiLight by Lumenis.
